Shop with a Cop tradition continues in Watertown, Lowville

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s department held its 20th annual Shop with a Cop on Dec. 9. On the same day, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office held its 15th annual event at the Lowville Walmart.

Sheriff Peter R. Barnett reported the event was a tremendous success.

“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we were able brighten the lives of 62 children and more than 80 first responders that volunteered to shop with them,” said the sheriff.

This year’s sponsors included: Walmart (Watertown No. 1871), Walmart (Ogdensburg No. 2092), Sam’s Club (Watertown No. 6539), Adams Center Fire Deparment, A-Z Auto Collision & Repair, Blue Heron Restaurant, Bob Burnham, Coins of Merritt (Merrit and Lori Merrit), Fraternal Order of Eagles Watertown Aerie 782, Bruce and Marilyn Hazen, Jefferson County Sheriffs Employees Locals 3089, Jefferson County Presbyterian Women, Kam Ventures LLC, Keitha’s Kate, Linda Porter, James and Martha Scovel, and several anonymous donors.

California Costco Worker Returns Envelope Containing Nearly $4,000 in Cash

A Costco employee as honest as the day is long is being celebrated after returning an envelope of $4,000 cash to a shopper.

John Sotelo had set himself a goal of working hard enough through August to make Employee of the Month, and thanks to his selfless act, he now has a plaque hanging on the wall of the store.

At the Costco on Shaw and Clovis Avenue in Clovis, California, Sotelo was putting away cases of bottled water when something on one of the pallets caught his eye. It was an envelope it seemed.
